Graduate Certificate
Graduate students with Africanist research interests make significant contributions to the scholarly community at PAS.
As a non-admitting research center, PAS does not grant academic degrees. It does award graduate certificates in African studies to those who fulfill interdisciplinary course requirements.
Certificate requirements:
- In addition to fulfilling the graduate degree requirements of another specific department in a PhD program, six courses with African content designed for graduate-level study must be completed.
- At least two of the six courses must be taken in departments other than that of the student's primary academic program.
- Students must also demonstrate linguistic competence in an African language.
- For a course to count towards the African Studies Graduate Certificate, 50% of the student’s grade must be based on work (papers, projects, etc.) with African content. The Program of African Studies may require you to submit this work.
